I found a photo on someone else’s blog. Clink on the link for a picture that will guarantee a smile. The blog is “My Mom is a Fob,” quotes from offspring who dote on their “first generation” mothers. I rue the day my girls figure out this scheme… but do take a look at this photo.

「うちの母ちゃんは一世」 (My Mom is a Fob)というブログがあります。海外産まれのお母さんたちの面白い英語のメールや手紙を２世の子供達が載せています。私は日本での”Fob”です。私の日本語はどんなに楽しく聞こえるでしょうか。（ためいき。）しかし、日本語でも英語でもない、この写真を是非見て下さい。

I don’t think I’m the only expatriate in Japan who will be much happier the next time (in 3-2-1…) I’m asked where I’m from! Being American has a whole new meaning starting today. And there’s more–the new First Lady is going to be Michelle Obama! (and it doesn’t get much better than that…)

毎日と言っていいほど「どこから来ましたか？」と聞かれる私ですが、この８年間「アメリカです」と答えるのが辛かったです。今日からまた胸を張って答えられます。オバマは大統領の選挙に勝ちました。オバマ氏は実はbiculturalですが、初めての黒人大統領と呼ばれています。それだけでも画期的です。お父さんは純粋なアフリカ人ですが、奥さんのミッシェルの家系に奴隷がいます。 奴隷の子孫が大統領夫人になるとは夢のような出来事です。

でも間違わないで下さい。黒人だから良かったではなくて、最も適した人がたまたま黒人でした。この素敵なリーダーを前にして、アメリカだけではなく、世界にとって新しい時代となるようにお祈りしています！

（ちなみに、オバマ家の投票所が私が４年間通っていた小学校です。 )
