Uchi no Ko–I’m not an animal person

Filed under: life in Japan, English entries, 翻訳業 — admin @ 15:54:49

This last week I have been up to my ears in petfood. Translation is a little bit art and a lot bit marketing research. In petfood land, owners like to refer to their in-house livestock as “uchi no ko,” which I have duly translated as “my baby.”

We have a dog.

Arthur such as he is

He has a nice yard to run around in, but he is NOT my baby.

The offspring I delivered personally are too big to be called this, even if it seems apt from time to time.

I finished the petfood report and went out to get some REAL babies. The kind I can relate to. They sit by my side as I work, quietly. Never complain, never fuss.

So these are my two new babies, alone and with some relatives.

  2. Oh they are. And they definitely will. They like their coffee in the big Starbucks cups.
