Book Cover Designer Chip Kidd on TED
Chip Kidd designs book covers for Alfred A. Knopf, the US publisher. He recently did a talk for TED.
In his talk, Kidd discusses how book covers are effective and shows many that he has designed, including Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton and IQ84 by Haruki Murakami.
Kidd’s talk includes a great deal of sarcasm and his own opinions–he is funny, but you may not understand all of his jokes. But he speaks very slowly and if you stick with him, you are sure to understand quite a bit. Since the talk is brand new, there is still no Japanese translation, so this will be a good chance to try out your listening skills and then check back later when the translation is available.
